Ed’s 2016 Challenge (to run/walk 2,600kms in 2016 is now well and truly up and running with money starting to come in and the miles being ticked off.
And now there is a chance for everyone to join in.
As part of the challenge, Ed is organising a mass participation event which just about anyone can enter.
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the completion of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, he decided that the challenge would be to run or walk the equivalent of the length of the canal from Leeds to Liverpool – and then turn round and run back again.
This is not something he feels he can manage by himself and now Ed is looking for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to join in.
The challenge is to complete 254.5 miles or just under 410 kilometres in 12 hours.
That means completing 1,025 laps of a running track in 12 hours at a rate of around 86 laps an hour.
Thanks to Pendle Leisure Trust, the event will take place on Saturday 30th April at Seedhill Athletes Track and Fitness Centre in Nelson, commencing at 8am.
Ed needs as many people as possible to join him and take part.
The first hundred people to complete 10 laps, a distance of four kilometers or around two-and-a-half miles, will receive goody bags.
There will also be a special prize for whoever completes the most laps and other spot prizes during the day.
Runners and walkers are all welcome.
All we ask is for a £5 registration fee and the registration process is now live on the Pendleside Hospice website.
NB:’Petal’ supporters please note that although the process is via the Pendleside website, Ed is raising funds for Pendleside and Petal but for admin purposes it is simpler to use the Pendleside site.
Anyone who registers will also have the chance to raise money for Pendleside and Petal Childhood Cancer Research and special fundraising packs can be requested when you register.
However, if people want to register, pay £5 and then raise money for a charity of their own choosing, that is also fine.
Please come along and complete as many or as few laps as you feel able and support Ed in this monster challenge.
